Recently, most students have got their own smart-phone, tablet and/or laptop. They can easily download soft-copies of books to their smart devices, and read them everywhere they want. Thus, this research conducted in twelve weeks aims to investigate impacts of extensive reading via e-books on the students’ reading comprehension (RC) at Thanh Dong University and their attitudes towards this learning method. Participants in the study were thirty first-year non-English majored students who voluntarily read graded readers(e-books) outside class in ten weeks. Thirty graded-reader books with audio, 300 to 700 headwords Oxford Bookworm, Macmillan Readers and Penguin Readers were picked. These books with audio were uploaded to Google Drive – Google’s online storage. Each participant was required to read one book a week. Data were collected three sources, students’ pre-reading test and post-reading test, reading journal and attitude questionnaire. The data collected the pre-test and post-test indicated that the means of them were 30.57 and 35.13 (out of 55) respectively. From the results of pre-test and post-test and the comparison of them, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference in RC ability after the action research. In other words, there was a remarkable improvement in the participants’ post-reading test. Besides, most students revealed their positive attitudes towards the reading project. The positive results of the current study could help make suggestions for the further application of graded readers in teaching as well as learning at Thanh Dong University and a reference for further research.
